Runtz was bred by Cookies, crossing Zkittlez with Gelato #33. Zkittlez. Zkittlez contributes an intense tropical fruit-candy sweetness and a relaxed, clear-headed effect, while Gelato #33 brings a creamy, doughy structure, deep purple coloration, and heavy resin production. Since its debut, the original Runtz has become a foundational cannabis genetics in its own right, spawning a wide family of spin-offs like White Runtz, Pink Runtz, and Rainbow Runtz.

Runtz is a balanced hybrid, roughly 50% indica and 50% sativa, with THC levels commonly tested between 19% and 29%, most often landing in the mid-to-high 20s.
